GUNTUR: Terming resignations of ministers and ruling Congress leaders as 'bogus', Visalandhra Mahasabha leader Parakala Prabhakar on Tuesday appealed to students to put up a united struggle to keep the state united. Agitations being carried out by various sections of people in Seemandhra region should become an inspiration for any democratic movement in the world, he said.

Addressing a mammoth gathering of students, lawyers and doctors at the 'Mande Gundela Ghosha' meeting here on Tuesday, Prabhakar alleged that the Telangana movement was based on pack of lies and false claims.

While reiterating that the division of the state would spell disaster to all regions in the state, he criticised Telangana leaders for 'dumping' the issue of backwardness of the region after the Srikrishna committee negated their false claims.

Consequently, Telangana leaders are now demanding a separate state on the plank of self-rule and self-respect, he added. Vignan educational institutions chairman L Rathaiah also blamed the congress high command for taking the state for a ride. All political parties made a 'mistake' by not taking people of Seemandhra into confidence, he said. "People's revolution in Seemandhra brings back memories of freedom struggle," he added.

IMA former president N Kishore, advocates JAC leader Brahma Reddy, and student JAC leader M V Ramana also spoke. With thousands of students turning up at the meeting near Sri Potti Sriramulu statue, traffic in the city went haywire for several hours.
